SINGLE-STAGE BREAST RECONSTRUCTION
Mentor is one of the few companies producing breast implants that can be used both as tissue expanders and long-term breast implants, particularly in single-stage breast reconstruction. This procedure is gaining popularity among doctors because it means these patients would only need one operation instead of two or more to reconstruct their breasts.
How It’s Done:
During mastectomy, a combination of tissue expander and breast implant is placed into the chest. The device includes a small filling tube and port next to the implant. Over weeks and months, saline is injected orally to expand the implant and tissue. Once the desired size is reached, the filling tube and port can be easily removed through a simple office procedure, leaving the implant in place.”
