Sweating Treatment

Causes of Excessive Sweating

Sweat secretion is associated with the functioning of the sympathetic part of the nervous system in humans. In about 1% of the population, this system operates excessively. The exact cause of this condition is not fully understood and is congenital. Particularly in stressful situations, this system tends to work excessively.

In general, sweating is less bothersome during the winter months. Besides, conditions such as overactivity of the thyroid gland, certain diseases originating from the adrenal gland, obesity, menopause, heavy psychiatric illnesses, and the use of hormones in the treatment of certain cancers can lead to excessive sweating.

Excessive sweating also leads to odor due to facilitating bacterial growth. Sweating, which can cause mental and physical problems and disrupt social life, can occur in the hands, armpits, soles of the feet, face, and body.

Treatment for Excessive Sweating

When it occurs in the hands, it not only complicates manual tasks but also causes discomfort socially. If sweating develops in stressful situations and the individual is bothered by it, a vicious cycle is initiated. The individual becomes more anxious knowing they will sweat, which in turn leads to more sweating, perpetuating this cycle.”
